Anointed Women in The Kingdom

The Seven Churches in Revelation

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      I find it difficult to remember the names of The Seven Churches and the “types”.  It is generally easier to learn if you write it out.  Today we are going to look at the seven churches in Revelation.

Seven Churches Then and Now

The seven churches in Revelation refer to seven literal churches described in Revelation.  The seven churches are located in western Asia Minor accessible by way of the Aegean Sea and ancient trade routes between east and west. During the first few centuries after Jesus Christ, these Roman-controlled cities were important cities in early Christianity. The actual churches ceased to thrive in the centuries of Muslim control ater the Romans, but the archaeological remains of all seven locations currently exist in present- day Turkey.  Here are the seven churches of Revelation as described by John in the late first century AD.

1. Ephesus – The desirable church that left–departed from its first love (Rev. 2: 1-7) Ephesus was the influential capital city of Asia Minor on the Aegean Sea.  Ephesus is now known for its huge metropolis of ancient streets, arches and ruins.

2. Smyrna – The persucuted church that suffered poverty and martyrdom (Rev. 2:8-11. Smyrna was located noth of Ephesus in a powerful trading position on the Aegean Sea known for its harbors, commerce and marketplaces.  The primary ruins of Smyrna are located in the modern Turkish city of Izmir.

3. Pergamum – The worldly church that mixed doctrines and needed to repent (Rev. 2:12-17. Pergamum is located on the plains and foothills along the Caicus River in Western Turkey. It was considered a major city in Asia Minor and became a Greek and Roman hub for temple worship.

4. Thyatira – The false church that followed a seductive prophetess (Rev. 2:18-29. Thyatira is located in western Asia Minor about 42 miles inland from the Aegean Sea.  The ancient city was known for its textiles and dyeing trade. and is now known as the Turkish city of Akhisar.

5. Sardis – The “dead” church that fell asleep (Rev. 3:1-6). Sardis is located on the banks of the Pactolus River in western Asia Minor, 60 miles inland from Ephesus and Smyma.  Popular ruins include the decadent temples and the bath house complexes.

6. Philadelphia – The church of brotherly love the endures patiently (Rev. 3:7-13). Philadelphia is located on the Cogamis River in western Asia Minor, about 80 miles east of Smyrna.  Philadelphia was known for its variety of temples and worship centers.

7. Laodicea – The “lukewarm” church with a faith that’s neither hot nor cold (Rev. 3:14-22). Laodicea is located in the Lycus River Valley of western Asia Minor, a primary trade route between the cultures of the West and East. Laodicea was known as a primary hub for the Roman aqueduct system.

Seven Churches in Revelation Their Ultimate Significance

The seven churches in Revelation are literal churches from the first century AD.  However, the seven churches in Revelation also have spiritual significance for churches and believers today.  The primary purpose for John writing his letters to the seven churches was to deliver Christ’s “report card” for the churches of that time.  However, a second purpose for John’s inspired writings was to describe seven types of churches (and individual believers) that woudl surface time and time again throughout history.  These short letters to the seven chruches of Revelation as as quick and poignant reminders to those who call themselves “followers of Christ”.

Apostles,Prophets,Evangelists,Pastors & Teachers

The Upper Room – Jerusalem. The concept of the Five-Fold Ministry comes from Eph 4:11, “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, some to be pastors and some teachers.” Primarily as a result of this verse, some believe God has restored, the offices of apostle and prophet in the church today. Eph 4:12-13 tells us that the purpose of the five-fold ministry is, “to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”

Apostle: One sent by God with a holy mission to fulfill; and the strong powers and spiritual gifts to fulfill the mission– (Known by the fruit of the Spirit of overflowing).
Prophet: One who speaks or communicates a message authoritatively as moved by the Holy Spirit Himself–(Known by their good fruit). They are known to see visions of the past, present or future at God’s discretion and for his glory or to teach.
Evangelist: One who desires that all should come to know the truth that God loves every one of us and he sent his son to live a perfect life. Someone gifted to proclaim the message in too many ways and forms to count.
Pastor: The word means “shepherd”. Pastors’ are gifted to lead, guide, teach and set an example for other Christians.
Teacher: Someone able to understand the more difficult things of God and explain them in a way that is easy to understand and live by in daily life.

Individuals, and their ministries or churches in this category are teaching online or via TV. Their impact is far reaching and they are Master Teachers of the Word of God. This list is by no means complete. It will continue to grow and change.

We suggest you print this list or write several names on a tablet. Turn on God TV, TBN, and The Word Network. With the names on this list, you can’t go wrong. They are anointed teachers of the Word of God. Go onto their website and listen to their audios.

The Kingdom of God

Building your Temple – Are you looking to have greater intimacy with God in 2012? As recent as 3 short years ago I was hungry, and unfulfilled in my spiritual life. During the holidays I visited Saddleback Church (Pastor Rick Warren) in Southern Ca. There I purchased a bible called the Extreme Faith Bible, which led to a new chapter in my life. Reading this bible was lifechanging!An intimacy with God developed. I connected with people that led me to a church where immediately began to learn God’s Word because scripture was taught and explained, scripture after scripture. Also, I received my prayer language the first time I attended this church. I learned how to pray in a way I had never known I was taught biblically, through scripture about deliverance and spiritual warfare and eventually became a member of the intercessory prayer team. Because of these teachings, when I went to Israel later that year, I was able to appreciate a lot of biblical teachings and sites. My trip was a very rich experience.

I have gone to church all of my life. I know that many Christians have not found the learning environment or the teachers, or experienced that defining moment that will bring them to a hunger for the Word of God. The Word of God must touch your heart. It’s time to get ratical! When you are on fire for God, nothing else matters. You have yielded to Him; and He is the most important thing in your life. When you received the Holy Spirit and he comes to dwell in you, everything changes. You become aware of your Power and Authority as a Son or Daughter of the most High God. If God is for you who can be against you!

This is a brand new year. If you want different results you must do something different. We cannot be lawyers, doctors and Indian Chiefs and not know the word of God. We must put God first place in our lives, and we must learn his word and his commandments. God’s Word must be written in our hearts. The information and resources we procide will help guide you in the direction of a closer more intimate walk with God, our Father. Some of the resources we recommend:
Mary K. Baxter’s book: A Devine Revelation of Hell or Bill Wiese’ story of his visit to Hell. If you are more advanced in your Christian walk, peruse the resource of teachers and pastors we recommend.
Please make it a point to include the ones you are not familiar with in your learning regimen. The teachers all have different annointing/gifts. God Bless you!
